WhatsApp. Awesome, great, WhatsApp. The instant messaging service that made BBM look like something from ancient times and killed sms text messages.

Obviously there are currently loads of instant messaging apps around, yet WhatsApp has had a huge head begin on every one of them, which means it has huge amounts of features as we know.

Here are 5 whatsApp tricks you should know about

1. Turn words bold, italic or strikethrough them

In some cases certain words require more accentuation and shouty caps simply wouldn't cut it. Try not to stress, WhatsApp enables you to make whichever words or expressions you need intense, italic, or strikethrough them and everything.

iOS and Android: Add an asterisk either side of the word or expression for *bold*. Add an underscore either side of the word or phrase for _italic_. Add a tildes to either side of the word or phase for ~strikethrough~.

Ever passed your phone to a friend or family member and in a split second froze about the messages they may see come through? Better believe it, we haven't either. For those that have, you can turn off message preview n iOS so just the contact's name will show up, instead of their biography.

In Android, it's not possible to do this through the WhatsApp application however you can stop private messages appearing on your lock screen on Android itself.

iOS: Settings > Notifications > Toggle off Show Preview

Ever had a free night and needed to message a few of your companions on the off chance that they are around without opening up each visit to ask them separately?

You can send a broadcast message to a rundown of contacts with it seeming like you've asked them separately. Incredible for sparing time, unpleasant on the off chance that they all answer yes though!

iOS: Chats > Broadcast Lists > New List > Add contacts

Android: Chats > Menu > New Broadcast

There is nothing more irritating than seeing those blue ticks show up without an answer taking after before long. In the event that you need to torment yourself somewhat more and discover when your message was really perused and to what extent you've been disregarded for, you can. We don't prompt it however.

iOS: Chats > Specific chat > Specific message > Swipe left to right

Android: Chats > Specific chat > Specific message > Press and hold > Tap the info "i" icon at the top

There may some people who if they get in touch with you want to know immediately in the event that they are calling or messaging you. To ensure they don't mix into the group, you can change their particular alert tones so you perceive when that specific individual has sent you a message or is WhatsApp calling you.

iOS & Android: Chats > Specific chat > Tap on contact name at top > Custom Notifications
